The Joy of DVR

We got our cable for the computer and TV hooked up last Friday. We got a DVR box for the Family Room fireplace. Neither one of us had ever had a DVR before, so it’s really exciting for us. I’ve already told it to record all of the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” episodes. Those kids are SO cute….I just couldn’t handle that many of them!

Then we were watching something last night and got interrupted. I knew we weren’t going to be able to finish watching to show….so I just recorded it! We were able to come back later and continue watching it until the end. AWESOME!Plus, we have a new TV that fits perfectly in the little niche! YES!

New Homeowners Unpacking

We're semi-moved in now. Our bed is on the floor in one of the spare bedrooms for now. Cuong and I have been busy unpacking all of the boxes we have....but we're making pretty good progress. Our kitchen is pretty much put away. All of the glassware, silverware, cooking utensils, etc are in their new places. We've been cleaning and getting all of the necessary things done.
The locksmith came out and changed the locks, the cable guy came out and hooked up the tvs and computers, the fireplace guy came out to fix the hearth, and the refrigerator got delivered! Yes!

On Saturday I looked out the window into the backyard...and I saw a bunny!! It was so cute! Apparently it fit through the crack between the two block walls. They're so quick! I was rummaging for the camera, but it had darted away before I could turn the camera on! Maybe next time.... a little pre-Easter bunny!
The carpet cleaning guy is coming on Wednesday...just before our big move on Saturday. Our poor furniture and boxes have been in storage for 9 months now. The boxes are starting to collapse on one another...not good.

It will be really nice once we can unpack all of our stuff and start LIVING in our new house! :)

Clock from TJ Maxx......$29.99!! Score!

BTW, we leave for Maui on April 3rd. I think I'm going to need a spray tan....I am butt white! haha

Super Excited!!

We signed all of our loan documents on Tuesday, so now even more excitement is building for us. We close escrow next Tuesday, the 18th and should be getting the keys on the 20th....or hopefully sooner!
We make a little shopping spree at Target to pick up some necessities: toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc. We're slowly making trips to our storage unit to pick up the things we'll need right away (computer, home phones, etc.) Too bad they're just ending up in a pile at my parents' house for now! Ooops!
We plan on moving our bed in along with some clothes/necessities on Easter Sunday and start officially "living" there that night. Since I'm able to go home to my parents' house for lunch, I'll load up my car with more boxes to take to our new home every night. Luckily it's pretty convenient! :)

California Budget Impacts

I’ve been hearing about the budget that Govenor Schwarzenegger has proposed for the state. It includes a $312.9 million cut to education JUST to the Cal. State Universities! That doesn’t include the other amounts of monies that are being cut from California’s schools.
The President of Cal. State Long Beach encouraged all alumni to write their local government officials and explain the impacts on the campuses that provide our citizens with a higher education.
I wrote a letter to Senator Diane Feinstein, Senator Barbara Boxer and House official Dana Rohrabacher.

“Dear _________,
After hearing about the current State budget proposed by the Governor, I am very concerned about the funds for our education system. I believe it will be very detrimental to our children and the college students trying to get the best education that they can.
I am a graduate of Cal. State Long Beach and feel very proud of my accomplishments at a CSU. The CSU system was able to provide me with an excellent higher education. Although I did not require any financial aid, I know that monies from the state budget enable the campus to function in a proper manner to provide what their students need.
Unfortunately with the large cuts to education, 10,000 qualified students will not have the opportunity to attend a CSU because they will not be able to offer them a slot at any CSU campus. That only leads to discouraged, and now under educated citizens of California and the United States.
I know we need to get our state budget back on track, but we need to be careful with the cuts we make.
Thank you for your time and all that you do.”

I don’t get involved in politics too much, but I figured that the more people they hear from, hopefully the more they feel compelled to listen to the people to voted them into office and fight for what is right and what they need.
